I am fully aware that we are now over half way through the year and I am posting this a bit late, but hey, at least you’re getting something! Honestly, this half year has felt like 5 years and trying to think back to January is incredibly difficult right now. Here’s hoping the rest of the year will be a bit more positive! Thank you to the wonderful Amy from Amy Jane Alice who tagged me!
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2020
I think the best book I have read so far this year is ‘Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race’ by Rene Eddo – Lodge. Whilst not a new read for me or a new release, it is a very important read and I would highly recommend you read it if you haven’t already, especially if you are UK based. I have been encouraging as many friends and family members as I can to read it. There has also been an extra section called Aftermath added to more recent editions of the book.
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020
Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. I read and loved Strange the Dreamer when it first came out. I then waited years for Muse to come out and for some reason I just kept putting it off. I finally picked it up in April and read it in just a few days (pretty impressive for me considering the size of the thing!). I absolutely loved it and it broke my heart into pieces.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Incendiary by Zoraida Cordova. I’ve heard many good things about this book and I have the beautiful Fairyloot edition so I am hoping to get to this one soon. I am however hopeless at reading what I say I will so we shall see when it gets read!
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
5. Biggest disappointment
I’ve actually had a really good reading year this year but I listened to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and I was quite disappointed. Sorry! I think I’ve missed the boat on this one!
6. Biggest surprise
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. I had heard good things about the book but I didn’t expect to race through it and enjoy it as much as I did!
7. Favourite new author (debut or new to you)
Elizabeth Acevedo. I had to check and see if it was only this year that I read With the Fire on High. It was, it feels like forever ago that I read it but that this year for you. I read this book in a day and loved it so completely. I’m trying to source and work my way through the rest of Elizabeth Acevedo’s books now!
8. Newest fictional crush
I don’t crush on characters in books, well, I haven’t done yet. I’ll keep open minded!
9. Newest favourite character
This is really hard! Gideon or Harrow from Gideon the Ninth. I love the sass.
10. Book that made you cry
For someone who is such a huge cry baby, I don’t often cry at books but I have very recently read and cried at The Weight of The Stars.
11. Book that made you happy
You Should See me in a Crown by Leah Johnson. So cute, fluffy love, f/f romance. Excellent!
12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
Any of these will do! I’m not doing particularly well at reducing my TBR at the moment. I may need to re-consider my goal!
